Since 1984, the year after giving birth to me, Toni Downing (my mother, pictured right) was diagnosed with relapsing/remitting Multiple Sclerosis. This severe autoimmune disease destroys the myelin sheath surrounding the nerves and causes damage to the central nervous system. MS has become part of my mother’s identity for as long as I have known her, stifling many of her most significant milestones. But to GOD be the glory for giving her friends from the National MS SOCIETY, who introduced her to treatments, therapies, and science-backed medication that improved my mother’s quality of life. In gratitude for their efforts and emotional/mental support, we created Team True Believers, our donation drive to continue funding for MS. From collecting donations door to door to motivating a team of 30 people to walk for MS, Toni Downing and I have championed donations toward a cure for MS for 20 years.
